ALLOW THE HOLY SPIRIT TO WORK IN AND THROUGH YOU
“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”
- John 16:13

“And I will pray to the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever.”
- John 14:16

TALK TO GOD
“Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.” - 1 John 5:14-15

GET INVOLVED WITH GOD'S PEOPLE
You are special and unique, created with gifts and talents that are needed in God’s kingdom. “For in fact the body is not one member but many.” - 1 Corinthians 12:14

READ GOD'S WORD
As much as we need daily food to nourish jour physical bodies, we need spiritual nourishment. “So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the LORD.” - Deuteronomy 8:3

GUARD YOURSELF AGAINST TEMPTATION
“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” - James 4:7-8

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.” - 1 Peter 5:8-9

REJOICE!
You belong to God. You are His child and in His family! You will always be in His presence. Jesus is coming back for all His children! “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” - John 14:3

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name
of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
- Matthew 28:19

WHAT IS water BAPTISM?

The Greek word used for baptism, ‘baptizo’ means to immerse, submerge, to overwhelm.

Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water as an outward testimony of what has occurred inwardly. It illustrates a believer’s identification with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection, “Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” - Romans 6:3 - 4

The action of being immersed in the water pictures being buried with Christ.
The action of coming out of the water pictures Christ’s resurrection.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR BEING BAPTIZED?
The person being baptized must have accepted Jesus Christ as Savior, and understand what baptism signifies. Baptism is simply a step of obedience, a public proclamation of one’s faith in Christ alone for salvation. Baptism is important because it is a step of obedience publicly declaring faith in Christ and commitment to Him.

WHY BE BAPTIZED?
The answer to this question is the answer to, “What is a Christian?” By definition, “a Christian is a follower, and emulator of Christ”. “And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.” - Matthew 10:38

A follower of Jesus Christ believes what He believes & teaches, and emulates His life.
We are told in Matthew 3:13, Mark 1:9 & Luke 3:21 that Jesus sought out John, the Baptist, and was baptized. Being Christian, means following Christ’s example, “And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him.” - Matthew 10:38-39

Baptism has a part in the Church founded by Jesus Christ, “After these things Jesus and His disciples came into the land of Judea, and there He remained with them and baptized.” - John 3:22,

“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.’” - Matthew 28:19

A true follower of Jesus Christ will be baptized with water, unless circumstances completely beyond their control prevent it. Our Lord & Savior set the example and established water baptism as an ordinance of His Church.

DOES WATER BAPTISM SAVE?
Water baptism does not save a person. If they are unsaved when they go down into the water, they will still be lost in sin when they surface. There is only on way to be saved. You must be born again. By repentance and genuine faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Water baptism is only for people who have already experienced the New Birth.

A baby or an infant cannot understand repentance and faith in Christ and so are too young to be born again.

INTO WHAT HAS A PERSON BEEN BAPTIZED?
We all know people who say, “I am affiliated with this church,” or “I joined that church” The Bible says “Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?” - Romans 6:3

Christ said “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” - Matthew 28:19

Nowhere does the Bible say that we are baptized into either a denomination or some particular church organization.

WHY DELAY?
The New Testament has several accounts showing that we should not delay baptism.

When Paul was to be baptized, God inspired Ananias to go perform it. Ananias’ reaction, immediately upon seeing Paul was recorded in Acts 22:16 - “And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.” Paul never forgot this.

Notice, when he saved the Philippian jailer with his family, it was some time after midnight, and yet they were immediately baptized without even waiting for the next day to come. “Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized.” - Acts 16:32 - 33

Also the Ethiopian eunuch was baptized immediately after Philip counseled him. “Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, "See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?” - Acts 8:36

WHAT IS BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT?

The baptism of the Holy Spirit is a gift of God which we can choose to receive after we become Christians, “And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, "which," He said, "you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” - Acts 1:4-5

“If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” - Luke 11:11-13

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR RECEIVING THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT?
If you are ready for Heaven, you are ready to receive the Holy Spirit. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit is God’s Gift to believers.

The gift of the Holy Spirit is not given after you have grown to a certain spiritual level, but He has been given to help and empower you so that you can reach higher spiritual levels.

HOW DO I RECEIVE THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT?
In Acts 2:38, there are two key words that you need to understand in order to receive the Holy Spirit. RECEIVE and GIFT.

God the Father gave (poured out) the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost once and for all. Therefore, it is not a matter of God giving you the Holy Spirit, but rather you receiving what God has already given.
Our prayer should not be, “Father, when are you going to give me the Holy Spirit,” but “ Father, help me to RECEIVE what you have already given.”

EVIDENCE OF HAVING RECEIVED THE HOLY SPIRIT
Speaking in tongues is the only reaction to receiving the Holy Spirit that we find in all five instances in Acts when believers received the Holy Spirit.

This is the very thing that is keeping many Christians from receiving the Holy Spirit. They are waiting on the Spirit to speak. But the Spirit does not speak in tongues. We speak as the Holy Spirit gives the utterance.
In other words, the Holy Spirit prompts us to speak and impresses the words and syllables of another language upon our thoughts somewhere in our inner being.

We take those words and “sounds” with our own will and BY FAITH we put them upon our tongue and lips and speak them forth.

“And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” - Acts 2:4

THERE IS A DEFINITE STEP OF FAITH when you first begin to speak. You are doing something totally new. Do not be afraid to take a step of FAITH.

“Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” - Mark 11:24

WHY SPEAK IN TONGUES?
WHY NOT? All the writers of the New Testament did. The Apostle Paul said… “I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all.” - 1 Corinthians 14:18,

“For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.” - 1 Corinthians 14:2

ONE FINAL NOTE:
The Baptism in the Holy Spirit is not the stopping place. This is just the beginning of a new dimension in your Christian life.

The Baptism in the Holy Spirit opens the door to the Gifts of the Spirit:
“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.” - 1 Corinthians 12:7-11
